I have come across the term Extra value and know that some poker players will play tournaments that are not there normal game because it has extra value.

If its not your game how does that make sense?

Not sure if this is the correct answer but to me extra value is a game where I will win money from if I play enough of long term.

Added money tournaments have extra value as it's money that is not added out of your own pocket.

Guaranteed tournaments that don't fill their numbers ie. $1k GTD that has only 500 runners for $1 buy in is "extra value"

A game can also be thought of as "extra value" if you consider the rest of the field very poor.

The Pokerstars Premier League is "extra value" (massive value if you ask me) as it's $10k added with only 1500 runners, it also costs nothing to play so it's a massive freeroll.
