Hi fp_boss77,

If you haven't made any deposit yet then you should qualify. Have you passed the Basic Assessment Quiz and the Cash Game Quiz already?

I only need to pass the 'Cash game Quiz' then. I think I'll be able to do it today.
After I pass it, what's the next step ?

Thanks

Hi fp_boss77,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion and can earn up to $8 while learning the fundamentals of the game with PokerSchoolOnline.

We like to start everyone, no matter how much experience they may have, off with the basics so to get you started we'd like you to play some play money games (In the PokerStars lobby go to Hold'em > Play Money > No Limit) and using the Hand Replayer please post a hand that you have found difficult here in this thread.

Doing this will ensure that you know how to use the hand replayer tool and if you've any questions on it just ask us.

Also please attend one of the 'Getting Started at PokerStars' live training sessions. You'll find these sessions daily in the Live Training section.

Post back here when you have done both these things and we'll move you on to the next stage.

Hi, I've attended the 'Getting Started at PokerStars' on Live Training. And I've played some hands in the Play Money Games.

Here's an interesting hand, which I'm not sure I've made the best play:
Should I've bet the river since they've shown weakness ?

How should I proceed now ?

Thanks

Brilliant, your doing a great job! I've asked one of our Hand Analysers to give you some advice on this hand and they will reply here shortly.

Now we want to get you playing on the real money tables. Next up, and spend some time on this one , study the Poker Basic Course and take the basic assessment quiz at the end of that course.

Once you have passed this quiz your first $2 will be credited into your account within 24 hours of passing it. Remember you can earn up to a total of $8 with this promotion.

Use this first $2 to then play the 1/2 cent real money tables only on PokerStars. Post back here when you get your first $2 and start playing these games and we'll continue on from there.

Ok, I'll wait for the Hand Analysers to give their insights about the hand played.

And about the 'Poker Basics Quiz' I've actually passed it before I did the 'Cash Game Course'.

Thanks

Hi fb,

I think the tricky part about the river for me is that if we check, it opens us up to being bluffed, and if someone makes a big bet into 4 players I'm not sure we can call. Since surely some of them were calling with worse made hands, and in these games there is a tendency for people to pay off light, I think the best course of action here is to bet/fold. That is, bet somewhere around 1/3rd to 1/2 the pot, and fold to a raise, as I don't expect too may people to raise as a bluff in this situation.

Yeah, I thought about betting even though the Ace was a scare card. But they do call of light lol.

What's my next step ?

Thanks

Excellent!

Now that you have passed the quiz your first $2 will be credited into your account within 24 hours. Remember you can earn up to a total of $8 with this promotion.

Use this first $2 to then play the 1/2 cent real money tables only on PokerStars. Do not play higher buy-ins than this until instructed to do so. Don't worry if you lose this first buy-in as we will credit you with another $2 should this happen.

Use all that you have learned so far to try some real money games (1/2 cent tables). Post any hands that you have difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyse them for you.

Also, attend both the 'Bet Sizing' and 'Entering a Cash Game Pot' live training sessions. These sessions are found daily in the Live Training section.

When you've done all this we will move you onto the next stage. Well done on the progress so far!

This hand was tough
Seat 3 was involved in almost all hands, so an extreme loose player, so imo, he had a pair or something like that. I don't see how I could fold this hand.

I've lost the first $2
What do I do now ?

Hi there fp_boss77,

Don't worry about the $2, we will award you another $2 to get you back on track. Before we do this we need to have the hand you posted analysed.

I've asked one of our Hand Analysers to have a look at it for you and they will post back here soon.

In the meantime attend one of the 'Bet Sizing' live training sessions and ask the trainer any questions you may have.

After we've done this we'll continue on to the next stage.

Ok, tomorrow I'll watch the 'Bet Sizing' Live Training then.

And I'll wait for the Hand Analyser to give me some feedback.

Thanks, I hope to get better results next game.
I'm looking forward to.

Hi fp,

This is not a fun spot for sure. The preflop call is ok, I'm not happy having to play out of position but our hand does play well multi-way, and we have decent relative position to the preflop raiser.

On the flop, I actually think you should in fact fold. You made a large lead bet into the guy, and he's raising you, which shows a ton of strength. As a loose preflop raiser he can hit this board in so many ways that is terrible for you. The obvious preflop raising hands of TT+ and AK, we don't play well against at all as they are all destroying us. Since he opens wide he can also have other hands that crush us, like QJ, K9, and 98s. Even some hands he might play aggressively that we think we're doing well against, we are not necessarily. For instance, if you run the equity on KQ vs our hand on this flop, we are actually a small underdog to it. Against AcQc and KcQc as a combined range, we are almost a 2-1 dog. Over all, when I include some hands we're beating, like JT and AQ (without a flush draw), against his range of hands as a whole we are about a 64-36 underdog in equity here.

Flopping 2 pair always feels strong, but in this situation it is a deceptive hand strength, as our holding is devalued by the board texture and aggression being shown by the preflop raiser.

Yeah, the shoving there would rarely be called by a worse hand.

What's the next step ?

Hi fp,

Attend that class, ask the trainer plenty of questions regarding bet sizing, then we'll take it from there

Hi,

Now it's time to study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Once you've passed the quiz post back here and we'll continue on.

I've actually studied the Cash Game course twice, and I've made the quiz in teh beggining of the week scoring 85%
But I'm constantly reviewing the course, beside some notes that I made on the most important topics like bet sizing.
