Everybody says that the button is the best position in poker. Why is that? I think it is an advantage to act first and put pressure on your opponents. Is this thinking wrong?

Thanks

Hi Beginner358,

The Button is without doubt the best position in Poker.

When your on the Button you will be the last person to act and therefore have the best information on your opponents action.

Poker is all about incomplete information so the more you know the better. If you are first to act you have no idea how strong an opponent might come out betting.

to act first can be good ....but to act last knowing how everyone else has acted (if we have been observant at least) is better.

... on the flop and later streets. The first person to act is the first player to the left of the button. Holding the button gives you control seeing all the action in front of you.
