Hi hukanui1010,

You are eligible for the Bank Roll Builder promo!

The next thing that you will need to do is to attend one of the 'Getting Started With Pokerstars' live training sessions. Please let me know after you have attended this session.

Also, you can be practicing on the play money NL ring tables and please post a hand that you were not sure about, using the hand replayer. Here's a short video on how to use the Hand Replayer

Hi hukanui1010!

With AQ from UTG+1, I'm either going to raise or fold and I would not open-limp. Open-limping is a play that is a very large chip leak over time, as I'd have to play the rest of the hand out of position, which is a huge disadvantage.
For a raise, I will make my standard opening raise of 3BB+1BB for each limper, so I will raise to 30.
I flop top pair/top kicker, but there is a flush draw and multiple straight draws available. I want to make a value bet that would give any opp that wants to draw, the wrong odds to do so... BUT... since I didn't raise preflop and there are 4 opps in the hand, I cannot do so. The best I can do is to make a pot-sized bet here (50) and hope that they all don't call me, because if they do, they are getting the right odds and I would expect to LOSE chips from this bet over time.
Luckily, they all folded.

For the other hand, in any league game, the one and only goal, is to last as long as possible to accumulate league points. That means to not play any marginal hands at all, unless I see the flop free from the BB. 9T from UTG is nowhere near a strong enough hand to play, so it will be immediately mucked by me. Here also, I never want to open-limp. If the hand that I have is not good enough to put in a std raise (3BB+1BB for each limper), then I should not be playing the hand and need to muck.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Hi hukanui1010!

Now we want to get you playing on the real money tables. Next up, and spend some time on this one , study the Poker Basic Course and take the basic assessment quiz at the end of that course.

Once you have passed this quiz, please let us know and your first buy-in will be credited into your account within 24 hours of passing it. Remember you can earn up to a total of $8 with this promotion.

Use this first buy-in to then play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables only on PokerStars. Post back here when you get your first buy-in and start playing these games and we'll continue on from there.

Hi hukanui1010!

Congrats on passing the quiz. Your first buy-in will be credited into your account within 24 hours. Remember you can earn up to a total of $8 with this promotion.

Use this first buy-in to then only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Don't worry if you lose this first buy-in as you will be able to earn another buy-in should this happen.

Use all that you have learned so far to try some real money games (1/2 cent tables). Post any hands that you have difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze them for you.

Also, please attend the 'Bet Sizing' live training session. This session can be found daily in the Live Training section.

Please let me know when you receive the buy-in and attend the training session.

Hi,

I have recieved the $2, Also here is a hand from the 0.01/0.02 tables that i wasn,t sure of.

This hand I was small blind and only had to call !c. The other players had been playing relatively tight and raising pre-flop with any decent hand.

Hi Huk,

Calling .01c preflop is the worst option here... you'll be out of position with a marginal garbage hand, this really is not profitable to pursue limping in this spot. Although it looks like a cheap price, there is a lot more money to bet after the flop and when you do hit the flop it will mostly be by making a weak 1 pair hand like 2nd or 3rd pair, not something you can continue with confidence on.

Generally just fold, but if you are going to play then do so with a clear plan for how it's going to be profitable. In the table dynamic you describe here, you could consider raising once in a while in spots like this... make it .10c to go... with opponents who are tight-passive they will fold and give you the blinds and limp sometimes, and call sometimes, but play fit or fold on the flop (so they fold a lot to continuation bets). There's some profit in that line against a tight-passive limper, even if you never win when he stays around past the flop. Of course sometimes he'll hit enough to stay around past the flop but you'll hit a freak lucky hand and win a big pot once in a while as well.

Identifying these types of situations and understanding how to navigate them in a profitable manner comes with experience, until you gain some of that experience just fold garbage from the small blind, it's a small leak but an easy one to plug.

Hi hukanui1010!

It's time to now attend the Cash Basics live training session.

Also, study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Once you've passed the quiz and attended the live training session, post back here and we'll continue.

Hihuk,

With your short stack I would generally fold preflop (to a tight player) and reraise preflop planning to get it in against a loose player. When calling here, generally I think we're committing with top pair, but don't really like check-raising as it shows too much strength which our hand doesn't warrent... we'll tend to fold out all his worse hands with this action, and only get action from better hands.
