Many groups of like-minded people have a central book which kind of defines who they are, and that they also reference throughout their lives for advice. It is Security Analysis for investors, The Art of War for military strategists, etc.

Are there any central books for poker players?!

'The Theory of Poker' by David Sklansky and 'Super System' by Doyle Brunson are quite old, and have been superceded by many more recent books that have come about since the internet poker boom, but they remain very good books for a newcomer.

No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice was my poker bible for several years. Early 2012 it was finally replaced however, with "Harrington on Online Cash Games; 6-Max No-Limit Hold 'em". Praise be to Harrington for showing me the way!
