No reads just a stack size observation.

So J9s in sb calling shorty in the co then I x/r with 2nd pair J kicker on 9K4r flop. Good or bad?

Speculative and aggressive >>we will never know<<.

Hey ForrestFive

I wouldn't mind a check-call in this spot. I think check-raising has to be +EV, but I think check-calling probably has a bit better expectation, with a heart on board at least.

The good thing about this check-raise is that you win the pot often. The bad things however are that

a) if you get called you don't know what to do on most turns
b) if you get three-bet you have to fold and you waste your backdoor outs and a bit of your equity

What good can happen when you check-call?

a) you can turn a heart, a gutshot, another pair, or trips, and then make decisions to put money in better
b) you can elicit another bluff or semi-bluff
c) you can lose less versus his strong hands, check-folding on an offsuit A for example

Things are going to get more complicated on the turn, but I think you will be able to manage against a player like this, or the player this player is likely to be.

Nothing wrong with aggressive lines though, as long as you are comfy giving up when facing resistance here.
