Whole hand was a disaster! Where did i go wrong? I should have 100% bet the turn right? He was playing pretty lose.

Also this one please

Could i have waited for a better spot? Thanks!

Hand #1 - with less than 12 BBs i'd just shove the AJ preflop. As it stands based on your read he will likely call and the hand would have ended the same.

Hand #2 - When there is a shove from UTG+1 i'm folding KQ almost 100% (depending on reads on the opponent). If he is a decent player i'd expect KQ to be behind to anything he shoves.

Hi Affluenza!

In the future, please only put 1 hand per thread and also put what type of tourney these are from, as different tourney types have different strategies and we want to be able to get you the best answer.

I'm going to make a big assumption and say these are from a standard cash tourney. If not, then my answers may vary greatly.

In the first hand with AJ, with 11BB, this is a shove or fold and I'm shoving preflop. Even if this were a league game, I'm never opening for less than 2.5BB (3125) here. Betting too small invites marginal hands into the pot and with a marginal hand to start with, the more opps in the pot, the worse of a position I'll be in post-flop.

If I did see the flop, I'd check here in a league game. If I bet, I cannot bet less than 1/2 pot or I can give any opp with a draw the correct odds to stay in the hand.

The turn completes the flush draw and my plan for here is to check/fold. I can't beat a K and I can't beat the flush, so I cannot put another chip into this pot without my hand improving.

Same thing for the river, I have nothing and need to check/fold.

The keys here, to shove preflop if a cash tourney and to make standard bets preflop and on the flop if it's a league game and check/fold the turn and/or river.
-------------------
While KQ is good enough to shove with if my stack size allows it, it is nowhere near a strong enough hand to call a shove, so into the muck my cards go preflop.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.
