Hey guys.

You've probably seen me around on the forum posting hands etc. Thought it was about time I make thread to track my progress as I (hopefully) move up.

Background: Got into poker late last year watching ESPN. As per most teenage donks without a clue, I played on Zynga.

After a few weeks one of my mates told me to get an account on Pokerstars. Once I had that, i played on the play money tables and played a few freerolls. Eventually I cashed in a PLO freeroll for $0.45, and have grinded from there with the addition of some early run good.

Played micro sngs till about $20 and have then played 6 max till now.

Bankroll is now around $270 and i'm playing 5nl and 10nl 6 max on Stars.

Live: I've played live a few times. This included a $50 donkament at the local casino where I came 7th/225 which was good for around $300. I also went on holiday to Hong Kong where I went to Macau for a few nights and played a bit of HKD$25/50 (equivalent to about USD$3.5/7). The play in Macau was probably worse than 5nl, and I won around 2 BIs. Had to be careful though as I was underage, and the Wynn could technically take my winnings if I was caught.

So... here's my graph so far from 2nl to some 10nl on stars (click for larger images):

Crap volume but I play when I can amongst uni and working.

Stats:

Will be posting hands here and hope to make it to out of micros (50nl) by the end of the year. My eventual goal will be for poker to make a better hourly than my job ($25/hr).

Thanks for reading!

Played some live 1/2 last night with a (horrible) $150 capped buy in.

First hand I doubled with Qs against a drunk guy who kept reloading.

So ~$300 deep I played a hand with a semi competent player.

There was a $4 straddle on (because apparently the game isn't shallow enough as it is);

4 limpers, I isolate from the SB with Qs to around $20. 3 folds, 1 caller.

Flop: Ks2d3d I cbet $30 he calls.
Turn: 7d I check, he fires $75 and I fold. He shows a K.

Guess it was pretty standard? I don't play much live. Ended up $70ish so that's always good.

Annnyywayyy, on the online side, played a small session of 10nl zoom:

Was playing 31/27/9. lag ftw lol.

Big hand:

Played it ok? Was considering 3betting pre but since he was MP i was a little hesitant.

June in review

Not a bad month for me tbh. Horrible volume mainly due to finals and being away on holiday for a week, but feeling pretty comfortable at 10nl.

Regs aren't giving me too much trouble and most are pretty exploitable (most notably being too nitty). Will probably be shot taking 25nl soon.

Also got 2 zoom and boom bonuses which is nice.

Graph

Playing 25/21/7 winning @ 14bb/100. Think I should be 3betting a bit more IP but don't think it's a big deal

You're crushing! I wouldn't change a thing about your style of play, because it seems to be working just great. Inspirational!

more like jokerstars! amirite guys?

Jokes aside its been a pretty bad start to the month.

Obviously the first day didn't go well (first 3k), so I decided to put in a monster session yesterday

5k hands in one day was probably the most volume ive played. I actually was really happy with how I was playing, but pokerstars decided not to give me a profit. My EV winrate was 9bb/100 so I think I just need to keep grinding and i'll eventually get out of this downswing.

gl at the tables everyone.

oh, and i made silverstar in 2 days which is always cool lol.

Oh my goodness!

It's hard to believe this second graph belongs to the same player as the previous one. If you're sure you weren't spewing, then you must have kept running into the top of villains' ranges. Clearly you lost a bunch of all in races too. If I was running that badly, I'd reduce my volume, not increase it (although I understand that volume should smooth things out). It's just brutal!

Haha its pretty brutal Arty. Just gotta push through it!

Here's my last 2 days (volume ftw!)

What's also interesting is that along with my losses, i've paid over $90 in rake in 3 days at 10nl. Really creeps up on you fast. Sneaky stars...

Here's an interesting hand I played. Villain who squeezed is a bad aggro reg. Thought he'd put me on AK if i 4b/check so I got a little tricky with Ks

lol

Did you switch over to Zoom from regular tables birdayy? Thought I saw u listed in the zoom pool. Guess zoom's a bit more swingy than regular tables, is it? Also, we may or may not have run-it-twice?

Yeah i mainly play zoom atm. Sometimes I have some regular games on the side.

I tried playing too many tables in my first session which probably contributed to the downswing. I was playing 4 zoom 10nl tables and 4 16nl regular tables. Obviously didn't go too well!

I didn't know run it twice was available in zoom?

I only play 2 tables of zoom lol!! And when I tried to add a 3rd at 5nl, it was a disaster - dropped 3 buy-ins in about 100 hands or something like that?

And ya, I don't think we do have run it twice at 2nl to 10nl. But I asked a PokerStars rep over at 2+2 if we could have it added, and he said we already had it. So then I didn't know what to say. It'd be a nice thing to have for sure

Well i definitely didn't keep up with the updates but thought i'd post a yearly recap to let people how i went

Achieved one of my goals of having a 10bb/100 + winrate. Felt I played pretty solid poker for the majority of the year. Still coming to terms with 25nl, but will hopefully get out of the micros at the end of 2014.

My volume obviously is pathetic, but this is mainly due to focusing on uni and work. I also prefer to put in quality > quantity. My aim was to play good poker, not having a goal of achieving gold star every month and gloating on how much rake i paid :P

Majority of the volume is 10nl-25nl, but there is a bit of 4nl chucked in due to that promo.

Tourneys went pretty well although i played bugger all. Got an ROI of 11%ish with a combo of a few HUSNGs and micro donkaments;

Finally, live poker went well also, which is where I made most of my money. Played a few sessions throughout the year from 1/2 up to 2/4 (both of which play like 10nl), and thankfully beat the rake and netted a respectable profit.

Gl in 2014 everyone!
