Hi farfaranoos,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion, good job!
NB: Bookmark this page so that you'll find it easily in the future

First Step

Watch the following video and pay special attention to the tips on retrieving and saving your hand history from PokerStars. This will be important for the rest of your promotional journey.

After wacthing this please play some PLAY MONEY FULL-RING (9-Handed) tables at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.
Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

Then when you have that done please have a go at the Poker Basics Course and pass the quiz at the end of the course.
So you have 3 steps to do to begin with and when you have all 3 done we will award you with your first bonus.

1) Watch the 'Getting Started' video
2) Post a 'PLAY MONEY' hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer
3) Pass the Poker Basic course.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 steps completed.

Best of Luck!

Hi farfaranoos!

With A8s from UTG, I need to immediately fold this, as it's nowhere near a strong enough hand to play out of position. If I had AK or AQs, I would then make a standard opening raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper, but A8 is not strong enough to do so.

I want to keep all of my bets and raises standard, as this helps to conceal the strength of my hand. Players that bet more with better hands and less with marginal hands are basically turning their card face-up to their opponents.. something I want to avoid.

When any of the opps re-raises, A8s is not even remotely strong enough to call with. To call these bets, I need to have AA, KK or maybe QQ, and QQ could even be a fold.

The key here is to muck marginal hands preflop when out of position.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Excellent!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.
Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Hi farfaranoos! I'll take a look at the hand in post #8.

You're in the BB with KTo facing a raise. The best thing to do here is to fold. KTo is not a strong hand. It's a "trouble hand" that is often dominated by better kings. Playing it out of position in the blinds is particularly tough, so I'd just lay it down. Instead, you decided to re-raise. There are two problems with this raise:
1.) You only made a minraise, which gives good odds for the villain to call. A better size for a raise is three times the open, which would make it 18c.
2.) Most of your raises should be for value when you expect to get called by worse hands, but worse hands than KT aren't going to call a reraise. Only better hands will continue.
The villain 4-bets to 50c, which means you'll be all in if you call. Villain is never doing this with a worse hand than yours, so you're always getting it in bad. You call and get the bad news. You're a big underdog with KT vs JJ. You'll win this hand less often than 29% of the time. It's obviously a mistake to get all your money in when you're way behind. Indeed, you should generally only be getting your stack in with KK/AA and sometimes QQ or AK. KT is a trashy hand that should just be folded.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Arty

2) If you lose your this bonus at the tables please post the hands where you lost the money with here in this thread. As soon as you post the losing hands we will advise on the next step.

Hi farfaranoos,

Our records do not show you to have 10 VPPs yet. Remember that only the VPPs that you have earned AFTER your last bonus count toward the 10 VPPs required. Keep working at it, they will come!

Hi again farfaranoos!

I'm amazed how you managed to build your roll to $20 so quickly, and then apparently lost it all. Let's hope that you have smoother sailing with the next bonus.
In the latest hand you posted, you're super-shortstacked with 12c to start the hand. Although K4s is not a strong hand, it's actually good enough to go all in with in this particular scenario, as you're heads up against the big blind and he can't call a 12c raise unless he has a hand like a pocket pair or a decent ace.
Unfortunately for you, villain had A6, so he was a favourite to win this race. Your hand didn't connect with the board, so his ace high held.

Hopefully you'll have better luck with the next stage of the promo.

Cheers,
Arty
