Hi Playa0123,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion, good job!
NB: Bookmark this page so that you'll find it easily in the future

First Step

Watch the following video and pay special attention to the tips on retrieving and saving your hand history from PokerStars. This will be important for the rest of your promotional journey.

After wacthing this please play some PLAY MONEY FULL-RING (9-Handed) tables at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.
Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

Then when you have that done please have a go at the Poker Basics Course and pass the quiz at the end of the course.
So you have 3 steps to do to begin with and when you have all 3 done we will award you with your first bonus.

1) Watch the 'Getting Started' video
2) Post a 'PLAY MONEY' hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer
3) Pass the Poker Basic course.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 steps completed.

Best of Luck!

Hi Playa0123!

This is a tournament hand (can tell from the antes as cash tables do not have antes). This promotion is ONLY for FULL RING cash games, as tournament strategy is different from cash game strategy. Once you receive your first bonus, if you play ANY cash tournament, you will be INELIGIBLE for any future bonuses in this promotion. The only game that is allowed is a 1/2 cent FULL RING NLHE cash table.

In a tourney with 77 and 2.5BB, when I'm the first to get into the pot, I'm shoving here every time (unless I'm on the bubble of a satellite and will get the ticket by folding). I can't wait any longer and need to accumulate chips.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Excellent!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.
Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Hi Playa0123! I'll take a look at the hand in post #8.

With J9s under the gun, there's only one play I ever make and that is FOLD.
Although this hand has the potential to make straights and flushes, it doesn't make very good top pairs. With any hand that is good enough to play, I come in for a raise. Just limping in (calling the blind) like you did is a weak play. It reveals that you have a weak hand, and it doesn't give you a chance of winning the pot immediately. You'll actually have to hit the board. If a hand isn't good enough to raise first in, then just fold. It's especially bad to play this hand in EP, because there are several players behind you who can call in position and make your decisions much harder.
As played, you limp, and it's folded around to the blinds. The SB completes and the BB checks his option. He can have any two cards, so you have no idea if you're ahead or behind. Since only the blinds played, you're actually in position on the flop, which rarely happens when you're UTG. You flopped a gutshot to Broadway, which is a weak draw, but when both villains check to you, it seems likely that neither hit the flop. I would often take a stab at the pot, but checking behind is OK. On the turn, you pick up a flush draw, which brings you additional outs. When both villains check for a second time, I am always betting. This is an "orphan pot". If the other villains don't want to claim it, then I will! You can bet here as a semi-bluff, because even if you get called, you could still hit a queen or a heart and make the best hand. Instead you check behind and take the free card. It's an offsuit queen, so you made the nut straight. Unfortunately, with 4 cards to a straight on the board, you won't be able to get any value from worse hands, as it's obvious what you have if you bet/raise on this board. The small blind bets and you raise, but he's always calling with Jx and folding anything worse. It's a chopped pot, so the final result of the hand is that you made 1c profit. This point illuminates another factor. When you limp into a pot, the pot is so small that it's hardly worth winning. With stronger hands than J9s, you should be raising pre-flop, to start building a pot worth winning. Limping in and passively checking or calling won't make money. Try being a bit more aggressive, stabbing at the pot when you think villains are weak and/or you have a good draw.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Arty
