I failed to stay in the Premier Skill League and have returned to the Open Skill League for September.

It's my own fault - I played far too few games in August in the Premier League, twelve for a net positive gain of just 8 points, finishing 895th. Plus I pretty much forgot about the Qualifier League games, having played just one on the 2nd August, finishing 11th of 187 for 49.47 pts and ending up 728th.

If I can get in good position in the Open Skill League I will try to maintain it and qualify through there. If the first week goes badly I will also try some of the Qualifiers.

I will track my progress here - to try and help keep my discipline and patience in the OSL.

Did OK in the first one, won one hand! AJ suited all-in preflop 4-way held to win heads-up at showdown with ace high after the big stack bet out each street, got the other two opps to fold and missed his draw. Finished 552nd of 8,050 - which translated to 369th in the table with +44.32 pts.

Of the 8,050 in the first tourney only 4,790 hit the leaderboard, so about 40% of the field are still not PSO members, just Freerollers.

In the second one I got my rockets a bit too early, just on the half-hour mark - but with limpers ahead I went for a standard shove and got just one call.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...014_5ED98CB27E

Shouldn't do too much damage at this early stage. Finished 3,131st of a full 10K field, so inside the top third which should only be a small points loss.

Third one is up now - some lazy folding whilst I watch the EPT Live webstreaming.

Third game - having picked up a couple of passive pots in my BB - I get Aces slightly later.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...497_6E5F855C6F

Well - the AKs sucks out on the river - but at least I made a small profit from the side pot.

My turn to suck-out when I'm blinded out - just to blind back in again.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...497_6E5F855C6F

and just after that a hand I'm happy to get in at this stage holds

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...982_68AD0C525D

But eventually I get sucked out on again - only two tens in the deck can help the opp on the river

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...101_413109BE6E

Finished 789th of another full 10K field.

As I thought - the second game only lost me half a point - though I have bombed down 491 places to 860th due to all the new folks that got points to overtake me.

After 2 games with 8K and 10K runners (many duplicates obviously) there are now 9,377 players scored on the leaderboard.

My current total of 1543.78 is already well behind the leader's 1,677.51 - but only 20 odd behind the 500th place - which is where I will be aiming. And I should have another decent score from game 3 to add-on.

Game 4 in a an hour - forgot how intensive these were coming every 4 hrs.

Game 4 I got past the 1,440 bubble finishing 1,395th of 10K for 21.46 points.

Game 5 I took a risk again once I knew I was in positive points.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...709_CDE34DD213

Two legitimate hands and the trash sucks out on us both. I made just 3.82 points there.

************************************************** *******************************************

So I played 5 of 6 games on the first day.

Only one small negative - picking up positive points in 4.

A gain of 108 points and a place around 200th in the League standings.

Day two has started with two similar results, busting just after and just before the 1st break - not making the bubble but not losing or gaining many points.

In the early game, a couple of hands after the break I call off my last 455 chips which would only last me one more orbit with AK suited and the flop is all one suit.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...895_7DE29E57A2

Wrong kind of red cards for me. But 'suited' my opponent.

Out 1,363rd, but with 7,849 runners bubble is at 1,170.

The morning game we are last hand before the break - I have 670 chips knowing we will be at 125/250 second hand after the break when the blinds hit me - I open 'shove' 3BBs with KK UTG (guy to my right is sitting out) and it folds round to the big stack in the big blind.

http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-h...838_94A55F4D82

Hits his ace with a deuce kicker and goes on to make nut flush to rub it in.

Out of that one 1,783rd from a full 10K field.

I played four games on the second day - fairly solid results.

2013-09-04 01:00(ET) 7849 1363 1608.11 11.5 1619.61

That left me in 202nd place as I play the early morning game 06:00 WET (01:00 ET) on Thursday.

I will get a good result in this one as we are down to 731 players and I still have 3K chipstack at Level 11 250/500/50.

I will need it as I am going out for the day and shall miss the next few games.

Will post some hands I boomed later.

Although I only played 2 games on day 3, both were good results and got me my biggest haul of points so far.

The game that won me a cent for 70th of 7,958 made 76.37 points and on the 10pm game WET I came 532nd of 10K for a further addition of 45.75 - bringing the total gain to 303.13 points in 3 days and boosting my position into the top 100.

SCORE HISTORY FOR EDINFREEMAN

2013-09-05 01:00(ET) 7958 70 1681.01 76.37 1757.38

I am showing as 91st in the league, less than ten points behind the next prize money jump which is for 79th.

There is a long way to go and the points will get harder to come by as the month progresses, but it is a decent start that gives me confidence I can make the top 500 for qualification to the Premier League and there is always potential for a nice prize if I can run as hot as I did in the first game yesterday a few more times.

Only two games again yesterday, and a small addition to the points total.

I made it through the bubble in the first game but made an error in the second.

This spot is not great to shove in the OSL because it was only 21 minutes into the tourney, stacks are too deep.

Although usually happy to get this hand in versus Ace Rag too risky this early and the suck out hurts too much.

http://www.boomplayer.com/poker-hand...195_A1FAB71AB5

So lost most of the points earnt in the earlier game.

It's Ok though - still running in the top 500 around 150th and points still increasing.

Four games on Saturday including my worst result so far.

With Q9 off I saw a free flop in the BB and flopped trip nines.

First to act on the flop I did not bet and the table checked round.

I bet on the turn card and got one call, bet again on the river and got jammed on.

I could have folded, but decided I had to call. Opponent showed K9 and outkicked me.

Not even half the field had bust - I went out in 6,295th and lost almost twenty points.

My other games were very ordinary, busting around the bubble for an average of 15 points.

So - overall I picked up 25 points.

Current league position is 205th going into my first Sunday game at 10am WET

Still in pretty good shape to achieve my goal of requalifying to the Premier League.

A couple of games on Sunday for similar finishes, inside the 1,440 bubble but outside the top 1000.

SCORE HISTORY FOR EDINFREEMAN
Date Participants Position Start Scored End
2013-09-08 09:00(ET) 10000 1229 1872.52 17.2 1889.72
2013-09-08 05:00(ET) 10000 1092 1851.32 21.2 1872.52

An addition of 38.4 points leaves me in 208th place this morning. Will play the 10am WET game but expect to miss a lot of games this week so will just try to keep chipping away at the points when I can.

Almost 65,000 players have scores up on the board now. The leader has reached 2,328.25 pts, nearly 440 pts more than I have accumulated.

Two more games yesterday - not many points gained but crept over the 1,900 point mark, running 247th in the league this morning before today's games.

SCORE HISTORY FOR EDINFREEMAN
Date Participants Position Start Scored End
2013-09-09 13:00(ET) 10000 1908 1902.08 0.98 1903.06
2013-09-09 05:00(ET) 10000 1431 1889.72 12.36 1902.08

It is useful to see these two results as they are good indicators. In the first game I just survived past the 1,440 bubble and picked up twelve points. The second game I finished 1,908th and gained just less than 1 point.

This gives me a good marker of where I will be entering positive points and the additional points I gain for surviving past there and through the bubble zone.

I am now roughly 500 points behind the leader (2,396.93 pts) and although there is a long way to go, my aim will just be to make sure I stay in the top 500 places on the leaderboard.

A decent gain of 80 points from two games yesterday

In the top 1000 for the first game and even better breaking the top 500 in the second.

S0 far I have played 24 games, an average of 3 a day and average points of +20.

Will miss a lot of games today/tomorrow so hoping to not drop back too far and catch up on the weekend.

Currently ranked 187th and although 620 points behind the leader, now with just over 2,500 points, the 500th spot has 1,833 points, so I am 150 points above that mark.

Three days away from the Open Skill League games meant I dropped from 187th down to 325th.

I picked up points in two games yesterday, getting past the bubble in both for a total of around 45 points.

Moved up to 289th place, now with a total of 2028.75 points.

It should still be easy enough to pick up a few points each time I make the bubble.
