Looking at this hand over and over, I stil can't get why don't I win the side pot with a pair of Jacks while 2 guys with just Ace high split it?

V3 got straight and you were shorter than him, big stacks split for the big pot

Sounds crazy. Since when is the stack size more important than the hand value? So, even if I had, let's say quads and V3 - a straight flush, I'd still got kicked by a third villain with no hand but 20X my stack.

Then what's the point in playing if you can never double up?

Hey you didn't win the side pot because you didn't have any chips in the side pot. All your chips went to the main pot.

This makes much more sense. So the one with a straight takes my money and the others split the rest of the money. So stack sizes don't matter, exactly like it should be.

Hi,

That's right... you can only win pots that you put chips into. When you are all in and there are multiple players with more chips to bet, you can only win the main pot (the one you contributed to) and additional betting by the other players is said to be done on the side (creating a side pot).

At showdown, the players who contributed to the side pot show down first, and the side pot is awarded to the best of those hands, then yours is shown down for the main pot (in which case you did not have the best hand since V3 made a straight).
