Hello intercept352,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion, good job!

NB: Bookmark this page so that you'll find it easily in the future

First Step

Watch the following video and pay special attention to the tips on retrieving and saving your hand history from PokerStars. This will be important for the rest of your promotional journey.

After watching this please play some PLAY MONEY FULL-RING (9-Handed) tables at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

Then when you have that done please have a go at the Poker Basic Course and pass the quiz at the end of the course.

So you have 3 steps to do to begin with and when you have all 3 done we will award you with your first bonus.

1) Watch the 'Getting Started' video
2) Post a 'PLAY MONEY' hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer
3) Pass the Poker Basic course.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 steps completed.

Best of Luck!

Hi intercept352!

When playing a ring table, one thing that I always want to do is to wait for the BB in order to start playing. Paying extra blinds over and over to start immediately will be a huge drain to my bankroll.

With AQ and 5 limpers in front of me (yes, the post counts as a limp), I'm going to make a standard raise, which is to 3BB+1BB for each limper, so I will raise to 16 chips. I want to keep all of my bets and raises standard, as this helps to conceal the strength of my hand. Players that bet more with better hands and less with marginal ones are basically turning their cards face-up to an observant opponent... something that I do not want to do.

I see a 3-way flop and hit top pair/2nd kicker. When it checks to me, I'm going to make a standard value bet. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 2 opps, I'd normally bet 2/3 pot.. BUT.. this is well over 1/3 of my remaining chips, which means that I'm pot-committed and cannot fold if I make this bet.. so I'm going to shove the flop.

The keys here are to make standard bets both preflop and postflop.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Brilliant!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.

Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Great Job!

You passed the Cash Game Quiz and know you've shown that you have a great understanding of the fundementals of playing poker. We have now credited your account with your 2nd bonus.

Step Three

Please play a 1/2 cent Real Money table at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

NB: You must post a Cash Game hand only, tournament hands do not count for this promotion. You must use the Hand Replayer only to post your hand, we cannot accept hands posted in any other way.

Once you post your hand one of our Trainers will analyze it for you so please post and intersestig hand where you have questions. Give as much information about the hand as possible, for example, had you any reads on your opponents?

Hi Intercept352!

Preflop you are facing an early position raise from a short stacked villain. Without a read on the villain, we can assume his opening range will mainly consist of pocket pairs higher than yours and overcards higher than yours. At best you are flipping for his stack, but you are probably slightly behind. So getting all in preflop is not the best strategy.

With speculative hands such as suited connectors and pocket pairs it is better to just call preflop at 2nl. If you flop a set, try to build the pot. If you miss, then we can safely fold. You will flop a set about 1 in 8 tries. This line keeps your losses small the 7 times you miss. Since players tend to call to light at 2nl, we will often be able to build a big pot the time we hit, especially against the villain's strong range in this hand.

Also, since the villain is short stacked, your 3b forces the villain to make a stack committing action. Either he will fold, or he will move all in with moving all in being the most likely. At cash tables, we want to be doing most of our big betting postflop after we have made a strong hand.

Call rather than raise preflop, in this spot

GL and have fun at the tables!
