Hi painofscream,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion, good job!
NB: Bookmark this page so that you'll find it easily in the future

First Step

Watch the following video and pay special attention to the tips on retrieving and saving your hand history from PokerStars. This will be important for the rest of your promotional journey.

After wacthing this please play some PLAY MONEY FULL-RING (9-Handed) tables at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

Then when you have that done please have a go at the Poker Basics Course and pass the quiz at the end of the course.
So you have 3 steps to do to begin with and when you have all 3 done we will award you with your first bonus.

1) Watch the 'Getting Started' video
2) Post a 'PLAY MONEY' hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer
3) Pass the Poker Basic course.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 steps completed.

Best of Luck!

Hi painofscream,

I will be your Hand Analyzer for this post

I like your preflop isolation raise, and I also like your flop raise as a semi-bluff with a K and 8 for a straight. But I think the mistake is raising OTT. Now that the board pairs, our relative draw strength goes way down because the nuts is no longer a straight because we are beat to a full house. Given that they bet so small, I would elect to call with the right odds and to keep the pot small for when we miss or when we hit and are beat.

Excellent!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.
Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Hi painofscream!

Before we look at your hand, let me recommend that you stick to tables where all the seats are actually filled. There were several empty seats here. This forces you to play a lot more hands which in turn makes it harder to be profitable. From the Holdem Lobby you can adjust the Filter to only show tables with 8 players. That way, when you sit down, the table will be full

Opening from the cut off with KQo is good and you betsize was perfect. You get one caller who has position on you. We need to be careful with this.

You miss the flop, but the ace is a good scare card. We can assume that much of the villain's calling range consists of smaller pocket pairs, weak aces, suited connectors and broadway cards. In other words it is more likely the flop helped you than that it helped him. Therefore, following through with a c-bet is good. I would suggest making it a bit larger though, about 70% of the pot. This will give him poor odds to call if he is chasing a flush.

NOTE: If the villain calls your bet, you should check-fold the rest of the streets. He won't fold and he probably has you beat.

GL and have fun at the tables!

Hi again painofscream!

This is an important hand to note. Before you act preflop, ask yourself "what am I hoping to flop?". Your hand has very little potential. You won't have a straight draw, you won't be drawing to the nut flush, a 3 will never be top pair and the biggest danger is flopping a Q. If you get action from a villain, you run a very real risk of losing a big pot to a Q with a better kicker! Therefore, even though it looks cheap to complete from the sb, folding preflop is the best move. You will rarely win this hand, especially being out of position. All these small calls add up to a big drain on your stack.

As played, you flop top pair and bet potsized. This is too big of a bet. It risks getting you value owned. This means all the hands you are beating will fold earning you less than you could have gotten. Whereas only the hands beating you (especially a better queen) will continue meaning you lose more than necessary. When you have some showdown potential but a weak hand, it is better to keep the pot small and try to get to the showdown as cheaply as possible.

I'm happy you won this pot, but be very careful about overplaying marginal hands

GL and have fun at the tables!
