Hello paulthroop,

You are eligible for the Bankroll Builder promotion, good job!

NB: Bookmark this page so that you'll find it easily in the future

First Step

Watch the following video and pay special attention to the tips on retrieving and saving your hand history from PokerStars. This will be important for the rest of your promotional journey.

After watching this please play some PLAY MONEY FULL-RING (9-Handed) tables at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

Then when you have that done please have a go at the Poker Basic Course and pass the quiz at the end of the course.

So you have 3 steps to do to begin with and when you have all 3 done we will award you with your first bonus.

1) Watch the 'Getting Started' video
2) Post a 'PLAY MONEY' hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer
3) Pass the Poker Basic course.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 steps completed.

Best of Luck!

Hi paulthroop!

I see two things with this hand before it even starts. First, this is not a full ring table. This promo is only for FULL RING NLHE. Once you receive your first bonus, playing any other type of game will make you ineligible for all future bonuses in this promotion. Please only play the 9 player tables.

The other is that whenever I sit down to a ring table, I always wait for the BB to start playing. Paying extra blinds over and over is a HUGE drain to a player's bankroll.

With a very bad hand in K4, I get a limp in front of me. I'd like to immediately muck this, as it is a very bad hand, but due to the post, I'll check and hope to see a free flop. If anyone raises, I absolutely need to muck.

If I saw the flop (which I absolutely would not), when I see that I hit top pair/bad kicker and it checks to me, I need to make a standard value bet. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 4 opps, I need to make a pot-sized bet of 120 and cannot bet less, as by betting less, I can be giving the opps the correct odds to try to outdraw me. If I do so and lose, it's my own fault that I lose the hand.

The turn pairs the board and now an opp that has been very passive, now leads, which is a huge red flag. When passive opps start betting, they almost always have it, so with this being the case, I need to give them credit for a 3 and muck.

When playing poker, one thing that I do not want to do is to be results oriented. I want to make the best decision possible for a given situation and the best decision for this hand is to not post the blind and to muck a very bad hand preflop.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Hi,

I think I should have maybe called with the A 10 with his small bet since he was a large stack and could possibly be just trying to steel the pot. But was unsure since he did call the raise pre flop so could have had a hand. Maybe you have some tips for calling bets after flop with over cards.

Answer to question
A player would make a big bet to put a lot of pressure on an opponent, to bluff people off a decent hand, to gain value from strong hands and to protect against strong draws

And I have passed the Cash game quiz so have now completed step 2.

Looking forward to continuing with this promotion it is great lots of help

Thanks

On the flop, you do have two overcards and a straight draw. However, a flush is possible and you don't have clubs. If a 2 comes, you have the low end of the straight. Moreover a 67 straight is already possible. Had the flop been two hearts, we could gladly continue because you would have good potential to improve. As it stands, none of your possible outs are giving you the nuts. Therefore, folding as you did is best here.

Good fold

GL and have fun at the tables

Hi paulthroop,

I will be your Hand Analyzer for post#13 & 14

Hand#1: Unlucky, nothing to be done there with just 4bbs

Hand#2: Because we only have 42bbs and we are at the top of our range, I think we can 4bet all in preflop when we are 3bet. As played, we should bet bigger OTF to get more money into the pot and get all in with less than a pot sized bet OTR. Unlucky turn, a bigger flop bet might have gotten them to fold. Maybe.

Hi paulthroop,

This is HU play, you should be sticking to fullring for this promotion.
With that said, I think the call is good preflop in HU. With TP here and starting with 33bbs I am probably committing to the pot. We can raise flop for value as we can get called by 9x or worse Kx hands. Or we can also just call. I would call the turn again as played as its a good card for villain to bluff at but I don't like to raise because we fold out all their bluffs and worse hands and only get called by better.
