After a few small raises and calls pre flop, A 7 K ( 2 spades ) on the flop. After thinking and previous hands I thought I was in good position made a reraise, and well most the table ended up all in. I caught a bit of over pot, but lost main pot to a flush. Any thoughts on this action. I obviously miss read the situation.

Hi mikespoker77!

With ATo from UTG+1, I get an abnormal raise from UTG (a standard raise would be to 3BB+1BB for each limper). While I do have an ace, from this position at the table, it's not a strong enough hand to be playing, so I need to muck preflop. To call a raise or 3-bet, the only hands with an A that I should be doing this with from UTG+1 are AA and AK. Even AQs is a bit weak for this action in front of me.
Another point here is that a standard 3-bet is to between 3X the previous bet and a pot-sized raise (if it's larger). I don't want to be raising to less than this because I can be giving the opps the correct odds to call to try to outdraw me.

When there is another raise and then if I get a large bet on the flop, I need to fold to both of these actions. It's most likely that I'm behind, so I need to fold. I want to be putting my chips into the pot when I'm ahead, not when I'm likely behind.

The key with this hand is that poker is a game of patience and I need to muck marginal hands preflop, especially when I'm out of position.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Player may want to make big bets to:

-Put pressure on opponents

-Bluff players off decent hands

-Gain value from strong hands

And a fourth reason maybe to:

-Protect against strong draws

Limped in on the button with 10 9 off. Hit a set of 9s on the flop. At this point was little excited and was not sure what to do. Ended up with 9 full of 10. What could I have done better from there on out that could have grown the pot more?

Hi,

Hand Analysis

Sitting on a 35bb stack depth I would have folded this hand pre-flop. We wont be flopping solid or a draw often enough for this hand to show a steady profit. As a good rule of thumb, whenever I decide to play a pot, I will enter for the standard raise of 3x the big blind...this will help to thin the amount of players involved in the pot.

Post flop, on the turn I would have raised to 14c max, anything more than this may fold out all of their drawing hands, Tx and high card hands that have show down value. On the river, even though the stack to pot ratio is set up for an all in, it's really hard for most of the villains likely holdings to call..even if they had Tx with a weak kicker they might feel gun shy toi call a large sizing...I would have bet 1/2 pot for value.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
CannonLee

Well as of yesterday the only test I did not take was the omaha quiz. It seems that I had to re do the cash game quiz which is not a problem. I started it and connection dropped and now I have to wait 24 hrs to re take it for what would be the 3rd time now. Very frustrating.
