After reading through some of the previous challenges I decided that I wanted to try myself this year to see really how far i can push myself so here it is.

2014 turbo challenge
make $5,000 profit

I know it's a little sad to have a target of just cold hard profit but i couldn't define what i wanted to make from this challenge in the form of a goal so i choose profit but its the way that i make it that will improve me as a player and hopefully anyone else that wants to follow my progress as the year goes on, i'm more than willing to talk to anyone that has a similar challenge of just wants to improve at the turbo games to help share ideas.

so heres the way i'm going to do it.
1. only play 45 man sng turbos nothing else will count towards this goal
2. bonuses and all other promotions won't count towards the goal
3. large volume of games

I know those rules don't shed much light into the challenge so heres my thinking behind it. I have been playing poker for a lot of years now but finally at the end of this year have decided to take things seriously. This game is very beatable and i have been doing so very easily for a little while now. Being at university allows me a lot of time to play large amounts of games so the volume shouldn't be the issue with the challenge. but most of all the reason i want to complete the challenge is to give me focus throughout the year and not give up after 6 months with a nice profit.

I will start at 0.50cent and $1.50 level and choose to move up when I feel the time is right and I have plug a few leaks in my game, bankroll for moving up will be taken into account but it will well above the normal 100 buyin rule to start with as my starting roll will be $500 anyway. I know i could bypass the .50 cent level but i want to plug the leaks first while its not so costly to do so.

i should update this thread while i go i may well start a blog instead and update that once a week and only update here once a month but i will post if thats how i choose to do so.

and lastly good luck to everyone else on there challenges for the year and may the cards be in your favour.

There's a bunch of people here on PSO who are really good with the goal-setting stuff ... Sandtrap777 has some blogs with some pretty good tips and stuff - I've been referring to them for help myself as my plans for 2014 are still in a bit of a shambles in terms of organization

GL with 2014!!

Ok guys i have decided that i will post here weekly and have a monthly blog post with updated goals for each month as the challenge progresses.

WEEK 1

so week 1 started a little early but i didn't get the volume i would have like to have gotten due to travelling back to university and socialising with roommates etc. So thats the negatives out of the way time to focus on the positives which very pretty good this week.

stake / games played / itm% / roi% / profit
0.50 / 78 / 26.9 / 59.5 / $23.23
1.50 / 143 / 21.6 / 45.9 / $98.57
3.50 / 73 / 23.2 / 21.3 / $54.53
total / 294 / 23.4 / 34.6 / $176.33

Originally i was sticking to 50cent and $1.50's but after a lot of early success and solid play i decided to start on the $3.50 with a view to move back if things didn't work out. the play at $3.50 is not much better than at $1.50 and have been easy to adapt to so i'm sticking with those and the $1.50's for now and will most likely move to just $3.50's by the end of next week with a view to add in some $7.00 games the week after that.

SUMMARY

On the whole it's been very successful but i have been distracted by a few other games which i have done well in so far (prem qualifiers played 2 won 2 and have pretty much guaranteed staying in premier league for next month just need to finish out 5 games and keep an eye out to make sure i stay above the score.) also had a deep run i a storm for $250 cash which was very nice. Now i'm back at university full time i should complete the volume levels i want and still play the odd side games when time suits.

challenge total $5,000
so far $176.33
to go $4823.67

WEEK 2

So week 2 was supposed so pick up right where week 1 ended and cruise on to massive profits. The key word be supposed to, however it didn't go anywhere close to what I would like to se in fact it was probably the hardest downswing i have ever experienced and has taught me the valuable lesson that nothing is ever certain in poker apart from variance.

heres the figures from week 2
stake/games/itm%/roi%/profit
1.50/114/13.3%/3.1%/+5.35
3.50/88/13.5%/-42%/-128.6
total/202/13.4%/-25.7%/-123.25

so as you can see the week was hard, after review a lot of the games when running so bad(worse streak was 56 games between cashes) i put most of it down to variance and some of it down to a couple of adjustments to my play against regs.

heres the total for the year so far
stake/games/itm%/roi%/profit
0.50/78/26.9/59.5/+23.23
1.50/257/18.28/26.95/+103.92
3.50/161/18/-13.1/-74.07
total/496/19.55/5.37/+53.08

SUMMARY

after down swinging so hard i didn't play as much as i would have liked mainly due to wanting to avoid tilting, so i have adjusted things slightly for next week to try to have a more pleasant week. those changes are switching back down to $1.50 level as thats a level where i make a nice profit and have the most of my games from all my samples and offer the most consistent stats at a level i know i can beat. This doesn't mean i won't be coming back to $3.50 but i want to take a week off of those as i find there to be a huge amount of regs that play ABC poker which is tough to beat in this structure, so i want to take some time to review all the regs to see if i can spot a hole or 2 to exploit. The $3.50 is beatable for sure but its by no means easy when having at least 3 regs on your table for most of the game taking chips from the fish before you can get them.

PLANS FOR WEEK 3

1. stick to $1.50 games
2. 250 games (have a couple of thing to do so less game time )
3. ROI% of 23% or higher (i know thats hopeful but gotta set a challenge)
4. review the regs for holes
5. better study of the structure to spot my weaknesses

Thanks for reading and following i should have a new blog post up in a week or 2 depends how things pan out with birthdays and other things.
