This year I have only one main goal on my mind – Supernova status. I started thinking about this back in the middle of 2013 and I believe that this year I actually have a real chance to achieve it, so all of my smaller goals will be set around reaching Supernova.

2014 will be all about hyper-turbo games. I am starting with $3.50 9-max Sit & Go’s and will grind my way up the stakes as high as possible, but already I can see that “as high as possible” means, at best, $30-60 stakes, because hardly anyone plays these games at higher levels. For this reason, one of my main goals, regarding learning, is to learn hyper-turbo Heads-Up games, and eventually maybe even make it my main game.

I am going to keep the same bankroll management rules as the last year and maybe adjust them after a very large sample of games, depending on swings encountered. So far it’s 200 buy-ins for 9-max and I am still thinking about Heads-Up, but it will probably be something in the range of 75-150 buy-ins.

Like last year, I want to have a strong reason behind every goal and make them actually do something useful, rather than just being simple goals to reach. So far this is the list of my early goals for this year. I will probably change some things during January, but I want to lock them after that, hopefully Time Vault will run again and will help me with this.

Yearly
  • Reach Supernova status – clear and simple
  • By the end of the year reach Supernova Elite pace (+3k VPPs per day)
  • Learn Heads-Up hyper-turbo games
  • Donate 10% at the end of the year to charity
Monthly
  • 10k VPPs (I know it’s more than needed for Supernova, I just want to be on the safe side)
  • Keep PlatinumStar
  • Prepare plan for upcoming month
Weekly
  • 2333 VPPs
  • Make a schedule for 1-2 weeks ahead and adjust required weekly/daily VPPs to not fall behind.
  • Take at least one day off
  • Write weekly reviews

Daily
  • Post-session analysis
Again, this list is not complete yet, I will add more during this month.

January

January is going to be really big for me, so I’m starting my grind straight away. I achieved my last little goal in 2013 regarding my bankroll, and so I’m able to start this year playing $3.50 games. At the end of this month I expect at least $400 from various bonuses and that basically leaves me with just $300 to grind during this month, to be able to move up to $7 games. This is probably going to be the easiest jump in stakes and I want to do it as fast as possible, that’s why I’m starting my grind today.

Some expected numbers for this month:
  • Games: 10k
  • VPPs: 10,5k (PlatinumStar)
  • FPPs: 21k
  • Stellar rewards: $150
  • 2013 Time Vault reward: $50

Week #1

I decided to cheat a little bit and skipped around 600 games, but since I got VPP bonus for being GoldStar, I ended up hitting my goal for this week. I also forgot to mention earlier that I’m now playing 15 tables instead of 6, I made this switch last year and so far I’m happy with it.

Overall first week was not bad, except maybe yesterday, when I hit -20 buy-ins during my last session. During the week I also decided that I need to improve my ITM play, especially while 3 handed, so all this week I’ll focus my learning on this topic.

Week’s numbers:
  • VPP: 1703
  • FPP: 2200
  • Profit: $46

Week #2

Nothing really was going my way this past week, neither in 9-max nor in HU games. Due to early downswing I've reduced my volume and took a few days off, hoping that things will get better, but bad luck stayed with me for the rest of the week.

I’m currently focusing more and more on HU games. So far I’m practicing with $1.50 games, but during this or next week I’m hoping to jump up to $7 games, because that’s what my current BR allows. Reason I’m working on HU is that I want to be able to jump back and forth between HU and 9-max, while earning similar amount of VPPs in both formats.

Week’s numbers:
  • VPPs: 600
  • Games: 732
  • Profit: -$47

Thanks everyone!

Quick update

After continuous run below EV for almost two weeks now, I've decided to try something else. Originally I wanted to jump back to 6-max, but then I thought, why not try 6-max satellites? Main reason I want to jump to faster games is that after so long run below EV, every game now feels like it’s taking forever and it’s just not fun anymore. So for next couple of weeks I’ll be focusing on satellites and HU games and will see what happens after that.

Week #3

Swingy and exhausting week, pretty much nothing was going my way, so another week finished with a loss. Since I reduced the volume due to running bad, I completely missed my VPP goal for the week, but I also decided to forget about volume for the rest of January. Main reason is that I stopped playing 9-max and currently focusing on satellites. So far my plan is to play only 6 tables until I feel comfortable with those games, then I will increase the volume up to 12 tables, and then I would be back on track to Supernova.

Week’s numbers:
  • VPPs: 693
  • Games: 855
  • Profit: -$42
