For the previous 3 years, Pro.ashley69 and I have played the GUKPT Goliath Event in Coventry UK. In 2013 the prizepool reached over £250,000 for a buyin of £120 (multiple day 1s and re-entries permitted.)

Here's some blurb to get you interested:
Quote:
Jake Skidmore has beaten the biggest tournament field in European poker history to win the Goliath at Grosvenor G Casino Coventry at the Ricoh Arena. Two records were actually broken, with largest total entries of 2,570, and largest individual runners of 1,822.

Originally first prize was £56,540, but with such riches on offer for such a small buy-in, the final four made a deal. Skidmore, from Redditch, topped the event to turn his £100 +£20 buy-in into a first prize of £29,690, beating Jiri Sladkovsky heads up. Champion Jake, 22, was almost lost for words. After his victory he said: “A dream has become reality. It was a gruelling 34 hours of poker but I’m feeling great!”

The massive field gathered at the sumptuous Grosvenor G Casino Coventry over four starting days, with 1,139 runners on day 1D alone. The remaining 370 came together for day two, when the bubble burst after just 10 minutes, with 360 players making the money of at least £180. Day three lasted just three hours, with 18 players departing in double quick time as the 27 remaining played down to the final table.

Russell Tamplin, Head of Poker at Grosvenor Casinos, said: “The Goliath has been running for three years now and it just goes from strength to strength. The success of this competition is testament to our customers, their loyalty to us and what we are trying to achieve.
“We plan to continue to offer great value poker competitions to our customers and to break more records in the future – watch this space!”

This was the third running of the Goliath at Grosvenor G Casino Coventry, and it’s grown in size every year. Expect Goliath 2014 to be even bigger!

Now I know it's still a long time until August, but the early bird catches the worm...and here's the worm - there's a team event. 2-6 players can enter as a team and win prizes.

Last years prizes were:
GOLIATH TEAM EVENT
Winners Prizes
- Free entry for all team members into next years Main Event
- A private £500 online freeroll
- £1000 GUKPT Main Event seat for the highest point scorer from the winning team

But as well as that, all team members would swap the same % in each other (% negotiable) so if one of us cashes we all get a piece.

Other benefits would include:
Skype hand analysis/coaching/strategy discussions in the weeks preceding the game
Some sort of custom clothing so we all look snazzy as a team
Get to be on a team with me and prozors!! Zomgz!?

Here are the downsides:
Week long event (August 11th-17th Mon-Sun) - This will probably be 4 day 1s, then Friday day 2 and Sat/Sun the deeper stages
Buyin - £120 per unit but we'd all need extra units. Playing it as a freezeout isn't really optimal but if you get through on 1 unit then great!
I'm thinking if we get a good team together and PSO has confidence in us, perhaps sell the action to PSO and even blog the event live from the Goliath

The reason I'm making this thread is because for 3 years me and Ash have wanted to be in a team but never really known anyone else

2014 could be our time to grab a £50k score, who's interested?

This is something I'd be interested in, I've heard very good things about that tourney in the past.

nice

it's a good tourney, lot of fish and enough playing time to build a stack
though i definitely favour aiming to get a decent stack on day 1(s) and gambling towards the end of the day if still not near/above average

if we can get this planned and have 6 decent players in the tourney, i like our chances

PS. i just read your profile, you'd get on with Pro ashley... he's a keen chess player (both of you would whoop my ass) and also supports Newcastle

further info - I'm 26 and Ash is 24, we're both from the Midlands

OK that's cool.

I'll ask a couple of my poker buddies up my way and see if they might be interested.

I'm interested but would want to be put on a reserve list. I'm in Belfast and plenty of time to organise but I also want to play the IPO next year which would precedent this tourney. I'd only be 30% sure I could play both hence reserve list.

If anyone wants in then I'll gladly step aside but I may just target this tourney if I do well on one of my other site's or win something decent on Stars.
