Post 1 - Overall Plan

5 YEAR PLAN

Aim to improve all aspects of my game through studying and reviewing.

Add $400 to the bankroll each year to reach $2K at end 2018.

Play mainly No Limit Hold Em MTTs, some sitngos and minimal cash.

Move up levels when bankroll permits, using solid and conservative bankroll management.

Make regular small deposits of $10+ up to a $200 maximum TOTAL any year.

Take advantage of available promotions such as the Privilege Freerolls and PSO Skill leagues to boost the bankroll.

Review quarterly bankroll targets to ensure I don't push too hard or move up too fast if I hit a big win early.

Allocate available bankroll at beginning of each month.

Plan each months play by setting limits for each game type and stick to them.

General MTTs
Use solid bankroll management of 100 buy-ins for MTTs and satellites, starting with $10 for $0.10 MTTs
Move up stakes only as bankroll rules permit.
Tickets won through satellites can be taken as T-money or played as a shot at a higher stake game.

Sitngos
I won't play many sit'n'gos until I have enough in the roll to have a separate bankroll with a good number of multiples for any level/type. I need to review what is good bankroll management for single table/larger field sitngos. I will start using 50 buy-ins for all sitngos - other than odd games played for promos.

I also need to revisit training materials for specific types, such as Heads Up and Fifty50 single table games or the 45/90 player microstakes before playing any.

Cash Games
I will mostly be avoiding cash games and playing minimal amounts. When I decide to add them back in the mix it will be with conservative bankroll management and again spending a lot of time training and reviewing. I will allocate a minimum $10 per month to play cash games for promos, PSO home cash games, to earn a few VPPs and to give me some hands to review.

Pure Fun
I will keep a small side pot to my main bankroll available just for fun games - such as the PSO Home Games series or one off Sunday Specials. Also available for any small staking/shares I wish to invest in at PSO. Any profits arising can kept for more fun stuff or could be moved into the main bankroll.

Shares & Staking
I offered shares a few times in 2013 and overall it was a good experience.
I will have to consider if I want to run more in future and how they fit in with my overall plan.

************************************************** *********************************************

One ultimate goal will be to take a trip to Vegas or another gambling world capital funded entirely from poker winnings. That would need a few thousand dollars. But I'm starting small.

Before anything changes I need to improve my game dramatically and become a consistent winning player in all formats. I stink at cash, don't play much sitngo, consider MTTs my relative 'strength' but am still much nearer the 'beginner' end of the scale there too.

So, although I have no intention to become a pro or semi-pro, or even demi-pro and will remain a recreational player - I would like to have some bigger long term goals to aim for.

I enjoy my poker and will continue to do so regardless. If I fail to make any profits in five years but have enjoyed myself I will have no complaints. If I improve and make a bit more more money but not significant amounts that will be fine. But lets aim a bit higher.

It will be a slow burner - especially at first as I have little funds online and no inclination to deposit large amounts. However I am prepared to make regular small deposits to enable me to play games I am comfortable with and take advantage of promotions etc.

cheers for now

Ed

Thx Sam - still working on the plan.

Goal for this year is pretty much finalised as getting the roll up to $500 - through MTTs/sitngos and minimal cash - but really I want in the long term to have ten times that - roughly $5K roll would be a substantial figure to have with no qualms about playing lots of MTTs up to the $55 level most below that - but would support a shot or two at the Sunday Million.

Then I would need to hit a big score at those higher buy-ins to justify a trip to Vegas.

But - goal setting is all about having something to aim for.

hey ed
nice long term goal but you don t need to play big$$$ to get there. cashing 1st in a mtt of 2.20 puts you a third of the way there and i know you got the skills for that. play where you think you have an edge.
sngs are a good place because of smaller field and it s fairly ez to maintain a +ROI and 20%itm

My playing plan for January is just to take $20 and play for fun - $10 for cash and $10 for tourneys and sitngos. Hope to get a boost from the pokerstars/PSO promotions too. I might make one or two small deposits later in the month to take advantage of Privilege Freerolls and the Jan Daily Challenge - and I want to play more real money games in the monthly PSO series

Hi Ed
you probably know already but in case you dont if you get chrome star you get the 100k privilige ticket for the month but you have to go into the store and get one each day as they run out after 24 hours.
sorry to bother you if you already knew but from your statement above which i copied and paste you mention about depositing to get the ticket.
good luck with your goals EDIN.

thanks wetmoose and jokerace

still working out my plan - but those are both good advice about things to consider.

As I am going to stick mainly to MTTs I should have 100 buy-ins - which is very limiting starting with the $20 I allocated for this month. The upside - as wetmoose says - is that when you do run well and have a deep finish the multiple of the buy-in that you win can be very high. So that is a great boost when you hit one, but won't happen often. It is classic high-variance poker and why I am trying to work out a schedule that can adjust for when I run good or bad - but if I hit a big score I won't go mad with.

jokerace's point about free access to the Privilege Freerolls is something I knew but it is a good reminder.

I deposited once this month on the 9th and will do so again for the last Daily Challenge ticket on 31st. That will get me access to the Privilege Freerolls until end of February. I haven't made Chromestar since about August last year - as playing mainly small stakes MTTs earns very few VPPs.

I don't mind that - I am aware of it and won't push for VPPs unless there is a clear benefit. As I am planning to make regular small deposits to boost the bankroll I don't need to worry about Chromestar status for the Privilege Freerolls.

Thanks for the input guys. I will formalise this plan by the end of the month!

Cheers

Ed

Started the year with just over $20 - plus $16 league prizes received on 1st/2nd Jan.

Bankroll is now up to $72.57 - with $18 due from the January leagues. $90 still aiming for $100 by end of March.

I made two small deposits in January total £15 about $25 - I will make at least one more in February for $10+ around the 10th when my Privilege Freeroll ticket expires.

As long as I stick to the plan and don't lose loads I should make the quarterly target easily.

Discipline is good so far - just need to keep it up.

The opening post is now fixed - I won't edit it again. I know my goals and how I will try to achieve them. The process of thinking about this seriously has already improved my approach.

Looking forward to February on the felt.

2014 Poker Goals.

Bankroll Targets - $400 by 31/12

Deposits Available - $200 Maximum

Bankroll target $100 by 31/03/2014 - Achieved $145

Bankroll target $200 by 30/06/2014

Current Bankroll $195.76 at 24/05/2014

May - Games & Limits

Cash Games
2NL maybe only PSO Live Training

BROKE MY BRM RULES IN MAY AND PLAYED CASH AT 2NL/5NL/10NL

Thankfully my first loss of discipline at the cash tables this year worked out positively.

I made a profit above $20 over roughly 4,000 hands. I am pretty sure that I didn't play at all well, so it was maybe more luck than judgement. I probably wont play much cash again for a couple of months but I have a fair bit of review to do over these 4K hands.

It has left me very close to my target bankroll for the first half of 2014 - so I don't think I have to change much at the moment. My playing volume is pretty low these days so happy to keep slowly building the bankroll.

UPDATE/ADDITION

I decided to make a small deposit today.

I realised I will be unlikely to get much from the OSL, so I wanted to access the Privilege Freerolls again.

I deposited £12 that had been sitting in PayPal so I can play the Privilege Freerolls again for a month

I left it in UK Pounds as I don't want to add it to my bankroll right now as I am ahead of schedule.

So still have Bankroll Allocated for May 2014 of $260

Also I will allow myself play cash at 5NL and maybe 10NL - but with a $10 stop-loss for the month.

$10 for Cash games at 2NL/5NL/10NL
$250 MTT & Sitngo Tourneys/Satellites up to $2.50

Any satellites I win tickets to for higher buy-ins I can play or take T-Money.
