Brilliant!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.

Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Great Job!

You passed the Cash Game Quiz and know you've shown that you have a great understanding of the fundementals of playing poker. We have now credited your account with your 2nd bonus.

Step Three

Please play a 1/2 cent Real Money table at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

NB: You must post a Cash Game hand only, tournament hands do not count for this promotion. You must use the Hand Replayer only to post your hand, we cannot accept hands posted in any other way.

Once you post your hand one of our Trainers will analyze it for you so please post and intersestig hand where you have questions. Give as much information about the hand as possible, for example, had you any reads on your opponents?

First hand I was dealt on the table, JJ. The player before me raised pre-flop. I called and ont hte flop and turn everybody checked. On the river one player placed a bet and I folded my pair of JJ's for I thought he had a stronger hand than me, which wasn't true...he had a pair of 88's. Have I played too tight this hand?

I did not receive the second bonus. Is there any reason for that?

Hi subway300!

JJ is a strong hand preflop. However it is very vulnerable to being beaten as there is about a 50% chance that a card higher than a J will come on the flop. If you are in a pot with many other players, you can easily get into trouble. Therefore against the limp and the small raise in front of you, I would prefer to 3Bet. This will hopefully get the pot heads up (between you and only one villain). Also you are on the Cutoff so will likely have position for the rest of the hand unless the Button comes into the hand.

V4's small bet on the flop looks very weak to me. The other players simply calling behind also look weak. I think this is a great opportunity to raise for value, as you very likely have the best hand here. You want people with straight draws or worse pairs than you (e.g. 9x, TT,88,77,66) to call. The pot currently stands at $0.44 when it gets to you, I would raise big to something like $0.30-$0.40 - this will thin out the competition while still getting good second-best hands to call.

The same reasoning applies on the turn, although you must now be a bit more cautious as someone could easily have 4x.

As played you have to call the river, I've got no idea if you have the best hand or not but you're facing a bet of $0.06 to win $0.81, meaning you're getting pot odds of you only have to be ahead 7% of the time in order to make a profit. I think you'll have the best hand way more often than 7% of the time, so you should make the call.

You didn't play the hand too tight, you played too passively. You could well have won all of your opponent's chips if you had played more aggressively on the earlier streets.
