Well done nocish!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.

Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Great job nocish!

You passed the Cash Game Quiz and so you've shown that you have a great understanding of the fundamentals of playing poker. We have now credited your account with your 2nd bonus.

Step Three

Please play a 1/2 cent Real Money table at PokerStars and, using the Hand Replayer, post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

NB: You must post a Cash Game hand only, tournament hands do not count for this promotion. You must use the Hand Replayer only to post your hand, we cannot accept hands posted in any other way.

Once you post your hand one of our Trainers will analyse it for you so please post an interesting hand where you have questions. Give as much information about the hand as possible, for example, had you any reads on your opponents?

Hi nocish,

Thank you for posting this hand for review and I have asked one of the Hand Analysers to take a look at it for you.

He will do this normally within the next 24 hours (but can sometimes take a little longer, especially at weekends) and once it's been analysed I will advise on the next step.

Hi nocish,

While you should be looking to defend your Big Blind a bit wider than normal to stop people just stealing your blinds all the time, you don't have to call with every hand. I think J2 is too weak to be calling with, you mainly flop poor pairs with weak kickers. Even when you hit a flush, you could still lose a big pot. Also, you're Out of Position which makes the hand even more difficult to play. Having said that defending with J2s is better than defending with J2 offsuit!

I suppose calling the flop is OK, but this is the type of problem you run into when defending such poor hands preflop, your postflop play becomes very difficult and you often have to make tough decisions with weak hands.

I like the turn check/raise but I'd make it bigger in order to set up an easier shove on the river. As you played it, the villain has more than a pot-sized bet left behind. If you had raised to $0.40, the pot would now have been $1.08 with villain having $0.97, meaning you can move all-in for less than a pot-sized bet.

Now the river isn't a great card, but I think that you will often still have the best hand and might get called by worse. I would bet quite small to encourage villain to call with some fairly weak hands like Kx or even a pocket pair between 77-QQ. I'd bet $0.30 and fold to a raise, as he's never bluffing if he chooses to check/raise the river.
