Brilliant!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.

Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Best of Luck!

Great Job!

You passed the Cash Game Quiz and know you've shown that you have a great understanding of the fundementals of playing poker. We have now credited your account with your 2nd bonus.

Step Three

Please play a 1/2 cent Real Money table at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

NB: You must post a Cash Game hand only, tournament hands do not count for this promotion. You must use the Hand Replayer only to post your hand, we cannot accept hands posted in any other way.

Once you post your hand one of our Trainers will analyze it for you so please post and intersestig hand where you have questions. Give as much information about the hand as possible, for example, had you any reads on your opponents?

So, I had a monster hand - AA. However, I thought it would be better to call as I was in early position and this would not show that I have something. After the flop I saw that my pair was the best, although it could have been beaten by two pair. I bet a bit, hoping that everyone at least call, but only one did. Then I raise a bit more on the turn and see that Villain_4 calls again. So on the river I bet more to build bigger pot.

I won this hand, but the pot was not as big as I wanted. How could I change my play to win more with such hand?

Thank you for posting this hand for review and I have asked one of the Hand Analysers to take a look at it for you.

He will do this within the next 24 hours and once it's been analysed I will advise on the next step.

Hi Titas,

The key to this hand is preflop. I remember when I was a relatively new player to the game and I'd often try to get tricky with AA and it would feel great when my opponents fell into my trap. However it is usually not the best way to play the hand.

Limping with AA has two big disadvantages. 1) It encourages other people to limp behind you and you see a 5 or 6-way flop when your AA become very vulnerable. 2) If someone else raises behind you and you reraise, a lot of players will realise that you have AA and AA only so will proceed based on that information. 3) The pots will likely be smaller as you can't bet as big on later streets.

If you raise to your normal sizing, people might consider that you have AA, but there are a whole other bunch of hands you can have.

On the flop you can make your bet size bigger because you have three opponents and it is unlikely that they will all fold. I would make it either $0.06 or $0.07. This might not seem like a big difference, but this difference will grow exponentially on the next two streets.

On the turn you say that you "raised a bit more". Although your actual bet size was bigger, as a percentage of the pot, it was actually smaller. The size of your bet in relation to the size of the pot is the relevant factor because that determines the pot odds that the villain needs to call. The K might be a bit of a scary card for the villain, so I would bet about half pot to try and not scare him off.

I think your river sizing is a bit too big, as you might scare off a lot of weaker one pair hands and will mostly get called or even raise by better. I think about 1/2 - 2/3 pot would work more often. Having said that, you bet big and got called by worse so I can't criticise this bet too much!

The main lesson from this hand was preflop, although it applies more generally. Don't slowplay your strong hands unless you have a very good reason to do so. Your default play should be to fastplay your strong hands as building the pot will yield you more winnings in the long run.
