Brilliant!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.
Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Do I have to use my buy in to play at the cash tables right away or can I save it for later when I feel more confident in my knowledge?

Hi homing,

You can practice for a while at the play money tables, until you feel more confident. When you're ready, move on to 0.01/0.02 cash tables.

Good luck at the tables!

Great Job!
You passed the Cash Game Quiz and know you've shown that you have a great understanding of the fundementals of playing poker. We have now credited your account with your 2nd bonus.

Step Three

Please play a 0.01/0.02 cent Real Money table at PokerStars and using the Hand Replayer post a hand here in this thread that you have questions about.

Here is a video on how to use the hand replayer.

NB: You must post a Cash Game hand only, tournament hands do not count for this promotion. You must use the Hand Replayer only to post your hand, we cannot accept hands posted in any other way.
Once you post your hand one of our Trainer will analyze it for you so please post an interestig hand where you have questions. Give as much information about the hand as possible, for example, had you any reads on your opponents?

I have a question about my bet sizes in this hand. Did I bet the right amounts on the flop and turn?

Hi homing!

Nice hand You played it well on every street. JJ can be tricky. On one hand it is a very strong starting hand. On the other, there are a ton of overcards that can come postflop that make it very difficult to play. Preflop, you can take a speculative line and simply call behind. This keeps your investment small and you can easily fold the hand postflop to overcards and heavy action from a villain. This is a safe approach, but I prefer raising as you did here. Raising builds the pot where we are likely to have the best hand. Moreover, we hope to get one of the limpers to fold. Big pairs play best against single opponents and raising aims to isolate one of them. That didn't work here, but it was a good plan.

On the flop, you have an overpair. We want to bet rather than let the opponents have a free card. Paired boards do not connect with villain ranges well which would suggest we bet smaller, about 50% of the pot. Here though, a flush draw is possible, and you have multiple opponents. These are good reasons to bet larger, anywhere between 66% - 80% of the pot. Reads on the villains would help determine the best size. In general, we want to bet the maximum that hands we are beating would call with.

The same is true on the turn. Now there are flush and straight possibilities. It still seems that you most likely have the best hand. So, betting as you did is great. We should bet about 70% of the pot in order to give bad odds to anyone chasing a draw. Also, we want to bet now on the turn while the chasers may call. It is unlikely that they will call a bet on the river all the times they miss.

We wanted to get more value from at least one villain on the turn, but getting everyone to fold on the turn is not a bad result since we need to dodge any Q,K and A, plus any heart and straight cards.

Nice hand
