Hand played this morning and just wanting to check the shove was ok.

7 people paid in these and we are sitting last at the minute and need chips.

MP player makes a raise, which is horrible on his stack size, and we shove which he is priced to call with anything he raised.

Is this a good play and spot for us?

Hi bhoylegend!

Well, my first instinct here is to snap-shove, but... let's go to an ICM calc to find out.

When I put the stacks and relevant actions in, I get a shove range of 55+ ATs+ ATo+. AKo is well within this range, so I'm shoving.

The key here is that I don't have enough chips to get ITM yet and need to be looking for a spot to accumulate chips. AKo isolated against a player that should be playing about 17% of hands (based on their stack and table position) is ahead of their range and with AK, I want to be seeing all 5 cards on the board if I'm playing the hand.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

Tricky spot Bhoy but I think I'm shoving, we're flipping at worst and AQ, AJ, AT certainly hits their range but so does any pocket pair up to 88. Players raise like this when their not confident of their holdings, they'll min raise premiums while shove hands like AKs and 88+.

What ICM calculator do you use John?

Thanks John, I've always used trial and error to work out my shoving and calling ranges. I have an ICMIzer account but never heard of the last one. I find these tools are only as good as the info you feed it.

Have you any stats on villain Brendan?
