Hi IqaluitMedic,

Welcome to PokerSchoolOnline! This sometimes happens when a player has very recently left that cash game table with an amount higher than their initial buy-in. If it's within a short period of time when they return it's considered the same session and so they will come back with the same amount they left with before. The reason behind this is essential to prevent something called Rat Holing, which is a practice where players will win a big hand then leave the table and then come back straight away with a lesser amount of money/chips which means they risk less which isn't particularly fair or in the spirit of the game. Hope that answers your question.
